Out of uni Project- MercyMagazine

I have been asked by Nathan Jones with two friends to produce a piece for a show to take place on fri 17th and sat 18th oct 08. This piece is based on a poem called a horse at midnight. it was suggested that we find some way of depicting some of the descriptive words used in the poem and produce it along side the the person reading it at the show. (poem to be added)

through this we quickly came to the realisation that drawing a picture wud take too long to do during the course of the poem. the only real fast way we could find of producing a fast effective drawing was to cut out stencils and spray paint them. for example:

this would allow us to produce the images as fast and as easy as possible to keep up with the poem. we then decided that each of these images should be placed on a set of 3 warning signs, triangle, circle and hexagon:

once this was decided we had a bases on which to produce multiple images all refering to words used in the poem. but the poem being called and talking about a horse at midnight we decided that we sould produce a stencil of a horse. we would spray all the smaller images and the warning shapes onto the much bigger stencil of a horse and then at the end of the poem remove the larger stencil to revial the horse.

monday 13th oct:
met up to take a practice shot at the piece using random colours, produced a horse stencil that will probably change and was able to practice to the point that we were happy with the results:

Wed 15th oct 08:
had a meeting with Nathan Jones to show him what we had come up with and talk about what was going to happen. after showing him the piece nathan was extremely pleased to see the work but was concerned about the helth problems with using spray paint indoors during the show, after considering alternatives such as acrilics in spray cartons we come to the conclusion that it would be best if we produced a video that can be edited and used on both friday and saturday night during the performances. slightly disapointed we wont be able to do this live but at least we get to go to the show and see the video at its best, we have also been told that there should be other dates such as one at fact that we will be able to do the piece live. the practice run looked somthing like this:

for this one we used the colours that we intended to use and also produced a different stencil. making it a much better piece.

Thursday 16th oct 08:
Filming, today we had to film the piece with nathan reading the poetry. this morning the rain convinced us that we would have to cancel the whole thing, not having a place to film was a big problem. so using the little time we had i made a quick dash to Zap graffiti arts. the studio in zap graffiti was the perfect place to produce the piece not being bothered about mess and with a decent ventilation system. I quickly made the most important call for this project to succeed. thankfully zap was available and was happy to house us for the filming of the piece. the whole piece came together, with a film man by the allius of Smeech (who works for LJMU) we were able to film the whole thing 4 times all at different angles to be edited later.

now we just w8 till saturdays show to see the final finnished piece
